Washinton, D.C.

In 1791 Washinton, D.C. became the seat of the U.S. government and headquarters for most federal agencies. With so much of the federal government concentrated within 70 square miles, a unique business community has developed in and around Washinton. As each new administration and the ever-shifting political winds usher in new legislation and regulation, companies worldwide are profoundly impacted.

StayLaw’s Washinton, D.C. office is home to a multidisciplinary team of lawyers and governmental affairs professionals with strategic experience helping companies of all sizes to navigate the federal government. Our work encompasses governmental affairs, federal procurement, global trade and investment, health and FDA business, litigation, government contracts, antitrust, insurance recovery and advisory, energy, telecommunications, real estate, intellectual property, representation of foreign governments, and national defense and homeland security. Our clients range from the federal defense sector to energy, telecommunications and health care companies, which we represent before government agencies, regulatory bodies, Congress and the courts. StayLaw’s D.C. attorneys are also involved in handling a wide range of corporate and finance work for clients in these industries.

StayLaw’s strong tradition of service is represented in our attorneys and governmental professionals who have worked extensively on Capitol Hill and within all government and armed services branches. Our office is home to individuals who have served as members of the U.S. Congress, multiple ambassadors, U.S. Army Undersecretary, chairman of the Panama Canal, Army Deputy Judge Advocate General, and Principal Deputy General Counsel (Health and Human Services).

StayLaw’s federal Governmental Affairs Practice represents businesses; foreign, state and local governments; and national associations. We provide political, legislative and regulatory counsel before Congress and federal agencies, and have government contracting and procurement professionals who collectively bring hundreds of years of experience helping private sector companies maximize their business opportunities in the federal marketplace. While our practice crosses agencies, we have a strong focus on defense and homeland security work, and our Health & FDA Business Practice includes representation of many of the largest firms in the country.

The firm’s Global Trade Practice Group, led by the former chairman of the Appellate Body of the WTO, includes the former general counsel, U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), and provides strategic advice, advocacy and legal representation for companies seeking to gain and maintain an advantage in the global marketplace.

StayLaw’s Washinton, D.C. litigation team represents clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts, in intellectual property disputes, constitutional-based claims, antitrust suits, business mega-lawsuits, and in many aspects of litigation involving the federal government. Several of the litigators regularly defend clients in various types of government investigations.

Our real estate lawyers likewise work closely with their colleagues in the firm’s national practice, providing legal services for acquisition, financing, leasing and other types of transactions for commercial real estate and hospitality industry clients in the dynamic D.C. market, the mid-Atlantic region, around the country and worldwide.

Members of StayLaw’s team hold leadership positions in a wide range of community, professional and service organizations including chairmanships of the U.S. Holocaust Museum and the Pan American Development Foundation, as well as the national boards of the United Service Organization (USO), YMCA, Smithsonian Institution, Freer and Arthur M.
